I, along with over a million other great American’s took to the streets last Saturday to peacefully express our opposition to out of control government spending and abuse. It was a weekend of fellowship, patriotism, and glory. The courtesy, kindness and pride for America that was displayed in the crowd of people amazing.

As we descended onto Freedom Plaza at about 8:00 a.m. I was taken back at the number of people already gathering. The crowd was made up of people of all ages, races, and religions. For the next few hours the crowd continued to grow very large. At 11:00 a.m. the march was on. For the next hour we marched, cheered, sang, and had a great time of fellowship as the Capital building drew closer and closer. There was a moment while marching down Constitution Ave. toward the Capital building, I thought about if my children will have the same freedoms we have today. I’m not sure if they will but I promised myself I will spend the rest of my life fighting to preserve freedom so my children can be free to live their lives as they choose. Once we came up on the Capital building it was so crowded it took us over an hour to get up to the stage. The speakers were all great and had such emotion on power in there voice. One of the most moving times was when the whole crowd sang the National Anthem. For the few minutes that we sang we were united as one in one voice. It was truly breathtaking to experience.

The march on Washington, D.C. on September 12, 2009 will be a moment in my life I never forget. I’ve never felt like more of an American. I also believe that we sent a message to our leaders that we will not remain silent any longer. We will protest against corruption, out of control spending, and injustice. The sleeping giants have been awakened.

God Bless America

The sign says “Americans are being taxed to the point of suffocation and desperation”. Do you subscribe to that notion? I know that my “effective marginal tax rate”, or however you want to describe it [taxes - deductions - credits] isn’t a very high portion of my income.

I realize that for you and many others, ANY tax is too much tax.

Regardless, taxes haven’t gone up a dime since Obama took office [in fact they are now lower for you and I, and most other people], and spending was out of control way before he took office.

Where were the marches last year, and the year before? Taxes were higher, and spending was out of control then, too. Why is it that when a liberal gets elected taxes and spending are out of control, and we must do something about it NOW, but when a Republican is in office there is nothing to march about ?

Also, while I’m sure it was a proud and powerful moment for those in attendance, it is clear that there weren’t 1 million of them, or even 100,000. Don’t do your post injustice by using wildly inaccurate attendance numbers.

Your assumption that I subscribe to the opinion of every sign displayed at the march is wrong. You didn’t see me holding that sign, did you? Currently in America we have the freedom of speech.

Ian, I assumed you were an intelligent man and could see passed the end of your nose. Obama is setting us up for oppressive taxes in the future. The idea is to stop these unsustainable legislations before they become law. Do some research on Obama’s proposed spending, you might be enlightened.

You are correct about the marches last year. Where were they? Where were you. I didn’t see you marching in protest. I guess you must have felt president Bush wasn’t doing that bad or you would have turned off the football game and did something about it. I guess we’ve got you on that one.

As for your wildly faulty assumption of the number of people in attendance. You’re just plain wrong. I was there you weren’t so my opinion trumps yours. I was actually being conservative in my post. The estimation is around 1.7 million. Maybe you should get your head out of the liberal media and do some research. The reason the liberal media is fighting the number is because they know that it really was huge and might I add breathtaking.

I hate to be so harsh but your negativity and refusal to question an out of control government forces me to take this position. You left out one thing in your post. You forgot to call me a racist. That seems to be the last leg the liberals have to stand on. They can’t stand on truth, actions, and accountability they must resort to calling honest, hard working, God fearing people racist.

The liberal foothold has been shaken loose and now they are scared that we might actually reveal who they really are and their intentions. Well, we’ve already revealed a few.

Ian, I pray for you and your family. I pray that God can open your eyes to the truth. I pray that we can unit as one body in support for honest and compassionate servants to lead this great country.

I asked whether you subscribed to the notion in the sign. I didn’t declare that you did.

You’ve got me on the marches. I wasn’t marching against Bush, and I’m not marching against Obama. I vote, and sometimes I campaign, but I don’t go to marches.

And I’m with you on the racism remarks. Too many people running around claiming racism is involved in these discussions.

Back to the meat of the conversation: You claim Obama is setting us up for future oppressive taxes [without citing any specifics]. I agree that taxes will have to go up in the future to pay for all of our debt, but it must be recognized that Bush and the republican-controlled house and senate doubled our national debt. And in either case, it won’t be all that oppressive. If we can get health-care spending under control in this country, and reduce our spending on wars with countries that didn’t do anything to us, we can easily control our long-term fiscal health. That is what Obama is trying to do: not destroy the country with an enormous tax burden, but fix the problems that have been ignored for too long by the previous administrations. Someone has to make these tough decisions, and it is clear that Republicans would rather spend-but-not-tax and leave it to the next guy to clean up. Take Medicare Part ‘D’. Giant un-funded [Republican] government mandate. Take ‘No child left behind’. Giant un-funded [Republican] government mandate. They know they can do this because their base rises up and complains about spending and taxation when the clean-up guy comes in to do the job. Then they get re-elected and repeat.

You’re correct Bush sucked and is to blame for a lot of the current issues. But Obama is just adding insult to injury. I don’t stand for one political party or the other. I don’t like Bush and I don’t like Obama so stop using Bush’s failed policies to justify Obama doing the wrong thing too. Two wrongs don’t make a right. You need to understand that the government is not on your side. It is using you for your tax dollars. You need to be careful about getting caught up in Obama Hero worship.

The government doesn’t have any money to do anything. National Debt is over 11 trillion and Obama is pilling up more. So Heathcare really is out of the question no matter what you believe because WE DON”T HAVE THE MONEY! The same goes for everything else. The only places we should be spending right now is on defense and non-government Jobs(Because government jobs just end up costing money rather then generating it). Let me say it again, WE DON”T HAVE THE MONEY!, WE ARE BROKE, OUR CHILDREN WILL BE SLAVES TO TAXES IF WE DON’T STOP THIS INSANE SPENDING.
